Kerala Nostalgia & Delicacy - School time Candy
Ingredients:
Idly rice - 1 cup (250 ml)
Urad Dal / Uzhunnu -2 tbsp
Orange food colour - pinch
Salt- pinch
Baking Powder- 1 pinch
Sugar-1 cup
Water-1/2 cup
Oil -for frying
Sugar to coat-1/2 cup
Method of Preparation:
1.Soak idly rice and urad dal for 3 hours then wash well and grind by adding little water to idly batter consistency .
2.Now add salt ,colour and baking powder mix well .
3.For preparing sugar syrup ,add sugar and water and boil well .after boil put the low flame and keep aside..
4.Heat oil in a pan and fry the thean nilavu.For this drop small amount of batter little by little into the pan and flip the sides.
5. Dip the fried then nilavu in sugar syrup and soak .them about 10 minutes.(Maintain the hot temperature of the syrup for soaking the dumplings,if the sugar syrup is cold ,the candies won’t soak )
6. Drain them and roll them in sugar.
Serve the colorful thean nilavu ...
