Dates Pickle / Eenthappazham Achar Malabar (Sweet and Spicy) Recipe:








Dates pickle  is a specialty of Malabar and it best pairs with Thalassery biriyani.This pickle has a sweet,tangy & spicy taste.



Ingredients:

Dates – 1 cup 
Sesame oil – 2 tbsp
Ginger (sliced)-1 tsp
Garlic(Sliced) – 1 tbsp
Green chilly  - 3 nos
Dry red chilly – 3 nos
kashmiri chilly powder – 2 tsp 
Fennu greek pwder  – 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida powder – 1/2 tsp
Vinegar – 2 tsp
Warm water  - 1/4 cup
Sugar – 1 tsp
Mustard seed -1 tsp
mustard dal - pinch
Curry leaves -Plenty
Salt to taste


Method of Preparation:

1.Cut the dates in small pieces.


2.Heat oil in a wok Splutter the mustard with curry leaves and dry red chilly.




3.Add the turmeric and chili powder, fen nu Greek  powder and asafoetida powder . Saute well 



4.Then  add water,salt  and vinegar.Bring to a boil .




5.Then Add the chopped dates and sugar cook for 5-7 minutes till the vinegar is absorbed and dates are softened and cooked.









6.Turn off the fire and spread mustard dal on the top of the pickle.


        Serve along with biriyani or rice dishes...)
