Meen Mulakittathu / Fish Mulakittathu ( Malabar Style )
Ingredients:
Fish -750 gram
Tomato-2 medium
Onion-1 medium
Shallots - 8 nos
Drumstick - 3 nos(optional)
Kashmeeri Chilli Powder-1tbsp
Turmeric powder- 1/ 4 tsp
Coriander powder-1 tbsp
Salt- to taste
Tamarind(Kudam pulli) - 2 nos
Curry leaves -3 strings
Ginger/ Garlic (Crushed) - 2 tbsp
Fenugreek seeds - 1/4tsp
Mustard seeds - 1/2tsp
Green chilli-2 nos
Coconut Oil-2tbsp
Water-2 cup
Method of Preparation:
1. Heat oil in manchatti ( clay pot) and add mustard seeds,let it splutter.Add fenugreek seeds and saute for few seconds.
2. Add curry leaves,Chopped Onions ,shallots,ginger and garlic.Saute until shallots turn golden brown.
3. Reduce the flame to low and add kashmiri chili powder,coriander powder, and turmeric powder and mix well.
4. Add Tomatoes and cook it for 5 mints.
5. Add water ,Drumstick and fish tamarind ( kudampuli),bring it to a boil.
6. Add fish pieces and salt to taste.
7. Cover and cook over a medium heat ,until fish is cooked and gravy is thick.
Serve with rice or kappa (tapioca) vevichathu .
