Kadala Curry  - Traditional breakfast side dish of Kerala

Puttu and kadala curry is the very popular traditional dish of kerala







Ingredients:

Black  Gram -  2 cups (soaked in water for 6-8 hours)
Onion - 1 small size
Tomatoes - 1  small size 
Ginger - 1 tbsp( chopped)
Green Chillies - 3 nos
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Chilli powder - 1/2 ts
Coriander powder - 1/2 tsp
Garam Masala - 1/4 tsp
Black pepper - 1/4 tsp
Mustard Seeds 1 tsp
Coconut (sliced) - 10 nos
Curry Leaves - 2 springs 
Coconut oil - 1 tbsp
Salt as per taste








Method of Preparation:

1. Soak Kadala  for 8 hours.




2 .Heat  in a pressure cooker add  soaked kadala,potato, carrot,onion, tomatoes , green chillies, ginger and mix it well.




3. Add soaked kadala along with  chilli ,coriander, salt, Turmeric  ,Garam masala required water and pressure cook for 2 -3 whistles or until done.





4. Heat oil in a pan,splutter mustard seeds.Add dreid red chilli and  Sliced coconut saute well.when the coconut till brown.




5.Add cooked gram along with the stock and mix well. Add water if needed. 




6. Add Black pepper and garam masala . Close lid of the pan and cook for 5 mins in thick gravy.

                             


                   Serve hot with puttu,appam etc…
